Navigating Leadership Changes

Apra Carolinas invites Mid-Atlantic Regional Chapters to join us for a panel discussion on Tuesday, March 15th at 2 PM EST!

A change in leadership can be exciting or terrifying – or a little bit of both. It affects everything from the mundane (changing the format of a prospect profile) to the profound (adapting to a new management style). Join our panel for real-world experiences navigating the seas of change, and come prepared with your own burning questions!

Meet our panelists:

Beth Inman currently serves as the Director of Schools Research at The George Washington University. In this role, she serves as the business owner and lead for Development and Alumni Relations’ proactive and reactive research services.Most recently, Beth was the director of advancement research & analysis at Colby College in Waterville, ME. Prior to joining Colby, Beth held similar roles at JDRF, the University of South Carolina, and The Citadel Foundation. Before her prospect development career, Beth was the associate curator of American and decorative art at the Columbia Museum of Art in Columbia, SC. An active member of the prospect development community, she has served on the Ethics & Compliance committee and chaired the Awards committee for Apra International, and was the president of Apra Carolinas from 2015-2018. She is the recipient of the 2017 Apra Carolinas Distinguished Service Award and the 2019 Apra International Distinguished Service Award. Beth is currently the co-chair of the communications committee on the board of NEDRA (New England Development Research Association).

Beth is a native of Charlotte, NC and holds a bachelor’s degree in art history from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and a master’s degree in art history from the University of South Carolina. She is mom to an 18-year-old daughter and is passionate about literacy, the arts, and women’s rights causes.

Amy Jackson is the assistant vice president of foundation relations and development at Wingate University, as well as a graduate of the school, holding a bachelor’s degree in music education. She previously worked as the grants manager for the Charlotte Symphony and has extensive fundraising experience in grants management, grant writing, donor relations, prospect research, and prospect management. In addition to Apra Carolinas, Amy is a member of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) and the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP). She also serves on the board of directors for the Union County Community Arts Council, she is a former board member of the Charlotte Master Chorale and the Opera Guild of Charlotte, as well as a past member of the Oratorio Singers of Charlotte.

Merissa Lawson is the Senior Director of Development Research at Elon University. She started her development career almost two decades ago at Middlebury College in Vermont, where she held various roles from 2004-2011, ultimately acting as Assistant Director of Research and Project Development. She earned her undergraduate degree in English from the University of New Hampshire and her MLS from Southern Connecticut State University. She has also completed a professional editing program through the University of California, Berkeley. She is the Immediate Past President of Apra Carolinas, with service on the board since 2015.

Dawn Wyatt-Goyette has 20 years of experience in development and is currently the Director of Prospect Development at the University of South Carolina. In this role, she over sees prospect management and prospect research and works directly with the University Development vice president and assistant vice presidents to develop future campaign strategies, top donor engagement tactics, and due diligence research. Prior to working in higher education, she worked at a medical center foundation where she over saw special events, campaigns, annual appeals, and database management.
Dawn has her Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Ferris State University. She has presented at APRA International and APRA Carolina conferences.
