SESSIONS

Networking: We will kick off the morning with small group networking to discuss common issues in our work. If you have any discussion topics, please let us know on the registration form!

Sara Gallagher, Assistant Director of Research & Prospect Management, College of Charleston: Parent Research

Parents are one of our greatest untapped resources for annual and transformational giving.  Recent studies have shown that engaging them early is the first step in building meaningful relationships, but where do we start?  During this session, we will review parent engagement and giving trends and what that means for research and prospect development with regards to screening, prioritization, and collaboration with partners across campus.

Cecelia Poplin, DonorSearch: Emerging Technology, New Data & the Impact on Prospect Research

Today we have access to more information and data than ever before. We have better resources, improved technology - including machine learning and Artificial Intelligence - and increased industry knowledge. With this emerging technology and data, we are found asking - what does it all mean for prospect research and identification?

Mike Boyle, Senior Research Analyst, Princeton University: Using H-1B Data to Determine Salaries

The Immigration and Nationality Act requires that the hiring of foreign workers by companies operating within the US not adversely affect the wages of American workers comparably employed. In order to ensure compliance, companies that sponsor foreign workers through visa programs are required to submit detailed labor condition applications to the US Department of Labor, which contain, among other things, each worker’s job title, workplace zip code, expected salary or salary range, and more. Mike will share where to find these data points, describe their strengths and limitations, and illustrate with examples.

Rachael Walker, Director of Research & Reporting, Western Carolina University: I Don’t Know What I Don’t Know: Improving Fundraiser Relations Through Needs Assessment

One prospect researcher in a large development office thought she was just working on an independent study for her MLIS. What she was actually doing was repairing long-damaged relationships between prospect research and frontline fundraisers. In this case study of a needs assessment process, find out what she learned about what works, what doesn’t, and what a big difference listening can make.
